From the Library – An Encore Presentation of Meet Asa Dunbar, African-American Pioneer on Irondequoit Bay

Asa Dunbar was the first African-American resident of Rochester, and he made his home near the Irondequoit Bay.

Last February, Mary Jo Lanphear, the Town Historian of Brighton, gave a wonderful presentation about his life and his important role in the community for library patrons.

If you missed it, or if you’d just like to see it again, please enjoy this encore presentation of Meet Asa Dunbar, African-American Pioneer on Irondequoit Bay:

A New York State Historical Marker honoring Asa Dunbar’s contributions to early Irondequoit history was erected at the corner of Winton Road and Traymore Street by the town in June. You can read more about this dedication at the Democrat & Chronicle.
