From the Library – NEXT WEDNESDAY (4/20/22): IPL Genealogy Group: I Have a Civil War Ancestor… Now What?

Brian Rhinehart, the creator of, will make another presentation to the IPL Genealogy Group this month. Following up on his well-received first appearance at the library, Brian will return for the second half of his presentation about ancestors from the Civil War era.

Civil War soldiers often left a rich genealogical paper trail, and many of these records were tucked away at the National Archives in Washington D.C. Learn what records are available for your ancestors only at the National Archives, what records are online already, and how to access all of them. These records may unlock some of the family stories that have been forgotten over time, as well as break down a brick wall or two!

I Have a Civil War Ancestor… Now What? will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 7:00 PM. Participants can view this program in person at the Irondequoit Public Library or at home via Zoom. If you’d like to attend, please register now through our Event Calendar. Participants who choose the online option will receive an email with the login information for Zoom before the presentation begins.
