The Irondequoit Public Library is excited to announce the addition of a Seed Library to our popular 1839 Maker’s Lab.

A Seed Library is a collection of seeds that the public can freely use to grow household plants and flowers, as well as fruits and vegetables with the understanding that those who borrow seeds will return a supply once their plants have been harvested. Seed libraries are becoming a popular fixture in public libraries and community centers around the country as they help promote the beautification of neighborhoods, healthy eating, and participation in outdoor hobbies for all ages.

The Seed Library will be operated by staff members at the Irondequoit Public Library and promoted in partnership with the Irondequoit Conservation Board. In addition, The Cornell Cooperative Extension will offer monthly programs that include gardening, cultivation, and healthy cooking.

The Seed Library is expected to open by the end of the year. This project is being made possible by an allocation of $6,500 in American Rescue Plan Act funds.
